Make Modelling a Career

Hi. There is a constant demand for models in India and abroad. We are constantly looking for new models in India and overseas. We do not believe in age limits. Models come in all shapes, colors, sex and age. One type of model we are looking for is a stock model. These models will shoot pictures for storage until someone ask for that shot. It is shot on speculation hoping someone will need it in the future. These models are paid when the picture is sold. It could be for promotion of products, fashion, packaging, calendars, etc.

It is our desire to provide an opportunity for models and non-model men and women. Our goal is to give non-models the thrill of a professional photo shoot and make them professional models and take it up as a career. A model shoot has many different clothes changes, different backgrounds; sometimes they are on location, sometimes in the studio. But much more planning goes into the model shoot. The photographer and the model plan the shoot down to the smallest details. This is the service we give to our clients.

We also provide the non-model client with a chance to get their picture published. If that is agreeable to the client then a contract is signed between the non-model (who becomes a model) and leenacom.com. At ‘New Faces’ it does not matter what you look like or what you weigh, you will be treated like a model.

For Professional Models we provide portfolio services. We will shoot the model’s own designed shoot by request. We also have opportunities for models to showcase their portfolio on ‘New Faces’.

Lux unveils its new range of soaps

Actress Kareena Kapoor and Lux celebrated 75 years of stardom recently at a city hotel where she unveiled its Lux Chocolate Seduction and Aromatic Glow. Kareena Kapoor, as usual, turned up late for the event. She looked gorgeous in her red top and brown skirt. She seemed happy about the fact that she was the chocolate seductress and enjoyed gorging on the chocolate and lotus cakes. Kareena launched a calender with 12 of her poses for the year 2006.

After flirting with the limelight, fashion icons of yesterday have moved on to their second innings away from the eye of the camera. Milind Soman is now a producer, Bipasha Basu is the hottest actress on the block. But where are all the other top models we knew and loved?

Deepak (Dino) Malhotra: This stunner was a favourite with the girls. He currently runs his own business and plans to open a restaurant.

I have no regrets about leaving the ramp, though I enjoyed it while it lasted. You need to have a young body and that’s something you can’t have at 40. I was always interested in engineering, and proceeded to the US to study industrial engineering. I have been studying and working for the past 13 years. I only returned to Mumbai last year and set up a business. I also plan to open a restaurant in September. The current crop of models include MBAs and engineers with decent jobs. Modeling is not their only profession.

Lubna Adams is now a choreographer. She believes you should know when to quit.                      Do I miss modeling?

It was so long ago I don’t even think about it any more. Yes, I was a top model, but the thrill of having your own business and doing something creative is very satisfying. Luckily, I am not in a thankless profession. There is enough “fame” associated with my job. The transition to being a choreographer was not difficult. An opportunity came my way and I took it. I would like to tell other models to continue as long as they are good at what they are doing and enjoy the work. Once you get bored and don’t deliver quality, it is unfair for everybody. That’s when you should call it quits.

Anna Bredmeyer: Her classic good looks gave her career a longevity most models can only dream about.

I took up a job that was an extension of being a model. I’m now the ambassadress of Beautiful Boulevard, the lifestyle store which sells international brands. While I was still modeling in 1997, I got an offer from Trikaya.

The ad agency was looking for someone who could be the face of the organization. It was an easy switch as the job profile was similar. Nothing lasts forever. As a model, you have a limited shelf life. I consider myself blessed, given that I began modeling in 1973 and still do a couple of shows here and there. Everything has a time and once you’ve given your best, you have to move on. That’s just what I did.

Mehar Bhasin always considered modeling a hobby. This former Revlon girl now runs a finishing school in Delhi. Global cosmetics giant Revlon selected her as India’s first brand ambassador, and she shared the honour with supermodels Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer. But Mehar clarifies, “For me modelling was always a hobby.” Today, she spends time compering shows for corporates like Airtel and Fiat Palio. She has also set up own finishing school – the Mehar Bhasin Academy - which trains models, offers personality development capsules and conducts corporate workshops.

“As for her future plans, Mehar ends with the intriguing, “Something is in the pipeline, you will see it soon.”

Feroze Gujral, who conducts workshops for organizations, is keeping her options open. Ad man Prahlad Kakkar once described Feroze Gujral as a “real lady.” This ravishing beauty was associated with an Internet portal for a brief period, and the television channel MTV. She says,

“Modelling today has become far more glamour-based. There are more people, but this is a good development, it has made the industry more professional. ”Feroze has worked with the accessories brand Fizzaro, she also conducts workshops for organizations and is “still open” about future options. And what might she consider doing next? “It could be TV or perhaps a workshop. I’ll think about it post summer.”

Michael Vasanth, who modeled for Raymonds, Vimal and MRF, now runs an event management company. Banglore-based Michael Vasanth walked the ramp with renowned French models, when Pierre Cardin was launched in India. While most of his contemporaries entered tinsel town, Michael decided to return to Banglore in 1992.

“I used to see the boys running around with their portfolios, visiting various producers. I realized I wasn’t cut out for films,” he explains. On his return, Michael began to choreograph shows.

Today he heads the event management company Studioline, which has handled events for Microsoft, Epson and Hindustan Lever, among others.

Just back from Washington where he attended a biotechnology conference on behalf of the Karnataka government, Michael concludes, “The transition from modeling to choreography and finally event management was a fairly natural one. Ina way. I’m still a part of the industry.”
